Central Michigan Univeristy
Proposed Men’s and Women’s Golf Facility

When CMU announced the decision to reinstate its men’s golf program in 2021 after a 37-year hiatus, the news was met with great enthusiasm on campus and within the state of Michigan golf community. The men’s program resumed competition in the fall of 2022, joining the Chippewa women’s golf program, introduced in 2014, as two of Central Michigan’s 17 NCAA Division I sport programs.
Two years later, CMU has announced ambitious plans to build one of the premier on campus golf development facilities in the country, and the best in the Mid-American Conference, to help recruit, retain and develop some of the top young golf student-athletes in the nation and help elevate its men’s and women’s programs to MAC Championship level status.
Thanks to a $5 Million gift to Central Michigan Athletics, the largest cash gift from individual donors in University history, we have started to move forward on the project. CMU has engaged with Matthews Golf Design, a Michigan-golf architecture firm that has a sterling reputation in the golf industry for innovative work, to begin design on this stunning clubhouse and practice facility, which will be a source of pride for the athletic department and campus community while aiding in the recruitment and development of championship level collegiate golfers.
The total cost of the project with all features included is estimated just over $11 million. It will include:
A 16,000 square-foot clubhouse with:
Men’s and women’s locker rooms
Men’s and women’s coaches’ offices
Four indoor hitting bays with simulators
An indoor putting green
Hospitality space
A practice facility with a:
Driving range
Short-game practice area
Three reversible holes with multiple tee-boxes
After securing a leadership gift, fundraising began in earnest in December. There are multiple naming opportunities at the facility to recognize support of this grand project. Please consider supporting this game-changing facility to help advance the CMU Men’s and Women’s Golf programs.
